Digital Witness facilitates digital storytelling workshops in the community to discover local stories. We provide support to enable people to make short digital films about their lives. Telling the stories from one’s life in a safe environment, acknowledging the struggles, recognizing the challenges and celebrating triumphs can help to give us some perspective on our lives and start healing. Being actively listened to is central to the process as the trained facilitator and storyteller collaborate in an intensive process to craft a good succinct script from which to make the film.

The participants are able to have hands on experience in the production of the film using simple video editing software. This helps to bridge the ‘digital divide’, and increase the skills and confidence of the participants. Crucially it gives the storyteller a sense of empowerment and control over the telling of their story.
